Stands for Point to Point Protocol. A set of commands that allows a PC to use the TCP/IP protocol over a phone connection. Normally, TCP/IP will only work over a network, but the PPP system fools it into working over a phone line. The TCP/IP protocol is the way in which PCs talk to other PCs over the Internet. You need to use the PPP system if you want to connect to the Internet using a modem.
